What makes the job rewarding, interesting, and challenging?
【The most rewarding part of my job】
Since I joined JESCO, I have been stationed in Indonesia (Jakarta/Bontang), Australia (Perth), and now the United States (Richmond), which is the third country I have been stationed in.
No matter which country I stay, I find it rewarding to be able to accept the culture, customs, and lifestyle of a country different from my own and to have friendly relationships with the people involved, so that things go smoothly and the base personnel and customers trust and appreciate me.

【The interesting part of my job】
Although it has been less than 10 years since the Perth Branch in Australia and the local subsidiary in the U.S. (Richmond) were opened, young staff in their 20s have been dispatched as expatriates, and there are many opportunities for them to be more active in the future if they wish to work overseas themselves.
In addition, more than half of the members active in the witnessing LNG vessel, including those in Japan, are mid-career hires, making it easy for them to become familiar with the work environment.
【The hardest part of my job】
The most difficult thing about being stationed overseas is taking care of your physical condition. Since it is not possible to have someone take over for you immediately in the event of a sudden illness or injury, I am much more careful than when working in Japan to maintain a healthy body, both physically and mentally, without getting sick or injured.
In addition, if a family member becomes ill, it will affect the other family members’ life patterns and prevent them from doing what they had planned, since the U.S. is basically a car-based society.

Why I’m glad I joined JESCO
I am happy when my work helps in receiving, loading, and unloading operations, and when the work is completed safely and the customer thanks me for my work.
When I was transferred to a new position, I received a heartfelt message of gratitude from the people at a certain LNG terminal of a certain electric power company in Japan (our customers), and even a portrait of me running frantically, which I will treasure forever.
The overseas assignment is accompanied by major changes in my work and personal life. I am amazed at the daily adaptability of my children who attend a local school, and I am supported by the people around me.
My second son was also able to join the baseball team at his high school in the U.S. I feel that our family bond has become stronger and more united through sharing/supporting daily experiences with the whole family, which is not possible in Japan.
In the U.S., there are Major League Baseball (MLB) teams in the capital Washington D.C. and Baltimore within driving distance, and you can see Shohei Ohtani from Los Angeles Dodgers and other Japanese players in action at the baseball stadiums up close. You can also watch a men’s professional basketball game (NBA)!
A message to future members
We have business trip to LNG receiving terminals in Japan from Hokkaido in the north to Kagoshima in the south, and as a buyer/seller’s representative/agent for LNG, we have also traveled extensively to overseas receiving terminals and loading ports when LNG vessel arrive at terminal, depending on the situation.
We also have two overseas offices, one in Australia and one in the U.S., and go to various locations and bases in Japan and abroad, so we have more opportunities for overseas business trips and working as an expatriate than our competitors.
