What makes the job rewarding, interesting, and challenging?

The greatest appeal of this job is significant social value – contributing to the stable supply of LNG, a globally important energy resource. Being involved in large-scale operations that transport energy across countries and regions gives me a strong sense of the impact and importance of the work we do.

Every day brings new situations. Tasks aren’t repetitive, as conditions vary depending on the type of vessel, port facilities and regulations, and differences in the perspectives of those involved. This constantly changing environment requires flexible thinking and sound judgment. Gaining experience in such a setting and feeling my own growth as a professional is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job.

On-site, close coordination among all parties is essential. I place great importance on building cooperative relationships, especially when it comes to communicating and coordinating with international crew members. Through these experiences, I have come to strongly feel the importance of flexible communication skills.

Another highlight of the job is the opportunity to travel to various ports, terminals and companies both in Japan and abroad. After completing our on-site tasks, I enjoy local cuisine and drinks, which helps me relax and recharge. Experiencing the unique atmosphere and culture of each port town provides a refreshing change of pace.

But more than anything, the most fulfilling moment is when, after the operation is complete and we see the vessel departure, we exchange “Thank you, we look forward to working with you again.” In those brief words, I feel a sense of mutual trust and shared achievement, which inspires me for the next task.

Why I’m glad I joined JESCO

I used to work for a shipping company that operated merchant vessels, handling cargo types different from LNG. There, I developed foundational skills as a navigation officer and gained practical experience on-site. As my personal circumstances changed, I began considering a career shift, and I started looking for a job that would allow me to stay involved with ships without long-term deployments. That’s when I found JESCO.

Although I had no prior experience with LNG, I was drawn to the opportunity to expand my potential and decided to take on the challenge and join the company.
JESCO is a diverse team with varied backgrounds, which makes it a workplace that broadens your perspective. At the same time, some employees, like myself, come from a maritime background, so there’s a shared language and understanding when it comes to working with vessels. I find it incredibly fulfilling to contribute to a field that supports clean energy and to work in an environment where I can apply my previous experience while continuing to grow in a new job.

A message to future members

LNG is a flammable substance and that must be handled at extremely low temperatures (around minus 160°C) requiring specialized knowledge and sustained focus. On-site, we work closely with terminal staff, agents, and vessel crews, often communicating in English to assess situations and ensure that each phase of the operation proceeds as planned.

Cargo operations take place day and night, and each task requires undivided attention. But that’s exactly why, when everything is completed safely and the vessel departs, I feel a profound sense of accomplishment and relief. Seeing the relaxed expressions of our partners and hearing even just a few words of thanks reminds us that what I do truly matters and makes my motivation for the next assignment.

One of the appeals of this job is being on the front lines of the energy industries. The industries that support people’s everyday lives. I look forward to working with people who can find meaning and satisfaction in the day-to-day challenges of this vital work.

PRIVATE

On my days off, I enjoy going on trips and playing basketball.
I like traveling both domestically and internationally.
Of course, it’s very exciting to encounter various cultures, architecture, and people, but my main purpose is to enjoy the local food.
The photo was taken when I was sightseeing in Vietnam. It’s the famous train road.
I thoroughly enjoyed local specialties such as pho, banh mi, Saigon beer, and 333 beer.

I think that being able to enjoy conversations with locals and other tourists is thanks to using English at work.
I also like to exercise, and have been playing basketball since elementary school.
I participate in practice and games after work and on weekends.
It’s a tough sport, and the fatigue increases as I get older, but just like with work, I enjoy it while keeping “Safety first” in mind!
