ABOUT JESCO

With a mission to help secure an important energy resource for the economic activities of Japan, our company handles LNG businesses for more than 35 years, which include the witness for LNG loading / unloading operations, import custom clearance, and the provision of technical advice.

History of JESCO

Japan Energy Service Corporation (JESCO) was first established in 1980, having Nissho Iwai Corporation (Sojitz Corporation) as its major shareholder, in order to deliver import service based on Badak Expansion LNG Sales Contract (FOB). The contract was signed between PERTAMINA (an Indonesian national oil and gas company) and Japanese buyers in 1981.

The first LNG delivery of this contract was carried out in 1983. JESCO’s responsibility to witness LNG loading operations at the port of Bontang (Indonesia) was reassigned to the locally established company, JESPRA, while dispatching its personnel there. In 1994, the very first cargo of BADAK IV LNG Sales Contract (FOB/expired in the end of 2013) was delivered. From the year of 1983 to the end of 2014, over 2,500 cargos were witnessed on site by JESPRA.

In addition to the above, JESCO provides import services as a whole, which includes on-site witnessing at the discharging terminals of both the already existing Indonesia LNG Sales Contract (DES, 1973) and the MCGC Contract (DES, 1992). JESCO makes sure smooth operations throughout all the services it provides. The aggregate number of Ex-ship cargos, which JESCO has handled since the year of its establishement till the end of 2014, amounts to around 5,500.

Activity of JESCO

JESCO addresses the varying LNG oppotunities of recent years such as increasing spot contracts as well as newly establishing middle and long term contracts, in a very proactive manner.

JESCO’s reputation for its expertise has been cultivated by the experience of handling those LNG operations in more than 400 LNG deliveries. Notably, JESCO’s work overseas is carried out in several LNG-rich countries such as Russia (Sakhalin) and Australia (Dampier/Barrow Island/Onslow), and yet its business continues to grow in new oppotunities.

JESCO is a proud group of experts in LNG operations based on the significant number of on-site experience and the accumulated knowledge through years of service. This gives JESCO an established know-how to successfully help buyers with various technical matters of LNG tankers under each LNG delivery contract.

JESCO firmly believes in its consistent and great contribution to the future projects we are about to witness.

The Outlook of JESCO

September 2001, as LNG JAPAN CORPORATION was jointly established by Nissho Iwai Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation, the shareholder of JESCO was changed to LNG JAPAN CORPORATION.

Demand for LNG is expected to continue rising as it is one definite form of clean energy. JESCO looks forward to future cooperation with other LNG related companies and to making further contribution to the safe LNG delivery by operating as a reliable link in the global LNG value chain.
